CASA, the voice of the shipping agency industry, held their 26th CASA Annual Six-a-Side Softball Cricket Tournament on 8th & 9th February 2025 at the NCC grounds, Colombo. This is the most awaited and looked forward to sporting event in the Calendar of CASA activities year-in & year-out. Since its inception in the year 1994 the popularity of this tournament has grown over the years among the members with the increasing number of Teams Participating in the Gents & Ladies segments of the Tournament. Further with the introduction of the Mini Tournament for the Stakeholders a few years ago the keenness and enthusiasm shown by them is encouraging. All the Participating Teams do enjoy this Tournament very much due to the very high standards and the efficient organization which is done by the CASA Sports Committee.There were 69 Gents teams and 29 Ladies teams that participated in this year’s tournament and a large number of spectators attended the event to support the participating teams.Ceyline Shipping Ltd emerged as the winners in the tournament Gents Section and Salota International (Pvt) Ltd won the tournament Ladies Section. Colombo International Container Terminals won the Invitation Mini Tournament.Praveena Samaraweera of GAC Shipping Ltd and Avantha Hewagama of Ceyline Shipping Ltd emerged as the best players of the tournament in the ladies and gents sections respectively.At the completion of the tournament the awards ceremony followed with Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Adm. Sirimevan Ranasinghe as the Chief Guest.Also, there was the following distinguished personalities that graced the occasion and attended the awards ceremony – SLPA Harbour Master Capt. Nirmal Silva, Colombo International Container Terminals CEO – Jan Zhang, Colombo International Container Terminals Ltd. General Manager Commercial and Marketing Catriona Jayasundera graced the occasion. Salota International (Pvt) Ltd Managing Director – Kolitha Wickeramasinghe and Director – Nilu Wickremasinghe, CASA Chairman – Shano Sabar, CASA Vice Chairman – Janesh Ratnadasa, CASA Treasurer – Mushin Kitchilan, CASA Past Chairman – Capt. A.V. Rajendra, and CASA Secretary General Ralph Anandappa attended the awards ceremony held afterwards.Apart from CASA members, every year there’s active participation in the Invitation mini tournament with Sri Lanka Ports Authority, South Asia Gateway Terminals Ltd, Colombo International Container Terminals Ltd, Hambantota International Port Group, and Colombo West International Terminals, which attributes to stakeholder bonding.The Success of this Tournament is greatly attributed to the generous sponsorships received from Our Principal Sponsor – Salota International Pvt.
